As a member of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, on Wednesday 9 May 2018, I met with a delegation of Members from the House of Representatives in Malta as part of a bilateral exchange which took part from Tuesday 8 – Friday 11 May 2018.
The aim of the visit was to explore good practice and facilitate practical exchanges on parliamentarians’ representative, legislative and oversight responsibilities.
Recent elections in both the United Kingdom and Malta presented a timely opportunity for both legislatures to undertake a programme which explores UK parliamentary development, practice and procedure, and allow for a discussion of areas of shared interest, including issues affecting the British Islands and Mediterranean Region (BIMR) of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and the UK’s exit from the EU.
I met with Hon Dr. Edward Zammit Lewis MP, Member of the Maltese Social-democratic party and current Chairperson of the Foreign and European Affiars Committee of the Parliament of Malta, Hon Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi MP, Chairperson of the Committee on the Consideration of Bills, Hon Robert Cutajar MP who is working with the Nationalist Party as part of the EPP group, and Hon Frederick Azzopardi MP, representative of the 13th District and current Deputy Whip for the Nationalist Party Parliamentary Group.
In November 2015, I was part of the UK Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) delegation to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) Women’s Forum in Malta.
