MPs Vote on New Clause 7 on the Northern Ireland Bill

On Wednesday 24 October I voted in favour of an amendment to the Northern Ireland (Executive Formation and Exercise of Functions) Bill, New Clause 7. This was tabled by Stella Creasy MP and Conor McGinn MP.

This new clause sought to equalise rights between the UK and Northern Ireland by giving responsibility to the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland to provide guidance on laws regarding abortion and same-sex marriage. This should provide greater flexibility to change restrictive laws in Northern Ireland.

New Clause 7 was approved Ayes: 207 Noes: 117.

The Bill, which sought to progress power sharing discussions in Northern Ireland, passed Ayes: 346 Noes: 26.
