Armed Forces Day

Saturday 27 June 2020 marked Armed Forces Day and I paid tribute to the men, women, and their families, who deliver for our nation day in day out. I am photographed here at Darlaston Memorial remembering those who have sacrificed their lives to keep our country safe.

Armed Forces Day is an annual event held on the last Saturday of June. It is a chance for the country to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.

Throughout history our troops have been there in our nation’s darkest hours. While commemorations were curtailed this year, it is as important as ever to recognise these incredible efforts. During Covid-19 we are reminded of their continual value to our society. From setting up test centres to delivering PPE, the Armed Forces community are helping the nation through this challenging period.

As a member of the Labour Party, I was pleased to support Labour’s new Friends of the Forces group that will help us listen to and support the service community that continues to deliver for the nation. The group was launched to mark Armed Forces Day and you can visit its website here: https://www.labourforces.org/
