Butts Primary School visits 10 Downing Street

Butts Primary School which is in the St Matthews Ward visited 10 Downing Street and I was delighted to meet them at the gates before going inside. Year 6 class had a conducted tour of No10 and the rooms which included the dining room used for the Covid Conferences.
While we were on the famous staircase wih all the pictures of former Prime Ministers on the wall, our Prime Minister Keir Starmer walked upstairs to the delight of the children who were surprised to see him and who chatted to him. The Prime Minister remembered his visit to Walsall FC.
Butts Primary School is led by Donna Marusamy pictured left knocking on the Door of No 10. it was a pleasure to accompany the children and staff.
The children were taken to the Cabinet Room so called and dates from the way the French Monarchs were advised by a “Cabinet counsel” a small group of advisers who advised the Monarch.
The children saw the Library where there are plaster bumble bees on the bookcases to represent the Blair family, and a Thatcher to represent the former PM. Despite a very early start the children asked and answered questions about this historic building. They also saw Larry the Cat.
