Urgent Question on the situation in Iran

An Urgent Question was agreed asking the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs to make a statement on the death of Mahsa Amini. The death of Mahsa Amini, and what is happening to women across Iran is deeply disturbing and heart-breaking. I stand in solidarity with those in Iran who are calling for freedom and the protection of their human rights.

I asked the Minister:

“Brave young women are being beaten to death just for wanting to be women and to conserve their human rights. We also have British citizens, Morad Tahbaz and Mehran Raoof, who are still incarcerated in Iran. What are the British Government going to do to release them?”

The Minister responded:  “Of course we have ongoing discussions about many different cases, but I am afraid I am not able to comment on those at this point.”
