On Wednesday 18 November 2015 I attended the inaugural Skills and Development Awards at the House of Commons, arranged by the Federation of Wholesale Distributors.
I was pleased to congratulate award winner Jamie Daniels, who works for Blakemore Fine Foods in my constituency. Over 50 members of the wholesale industry and award-winning employees celebrated the commitment wholesalers have to fostering and developing talent. I was impressed by the breadth of skills being recognised and the impact that the wholesale industry makes to skills development in the UK.
UK wholesale companies generate annual revenues of £30bn, employ 70,000 people and contribute £2.9bn of gross value added to the UK economy annually. Wholesale is crucial in supplying goods to the many small and family run businesses in Walsall South.
