Valerie hosts Women MPs

I was pleased to welcome colleagues to Palfrey Sure Start centre in Walsall to campaign to remain in the EU on Monday 13 June 2016. Palfrey Sure Start has been rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in its last two inspections.

Harriet Harman MP, Angela Eagle MP, Maria Eagle MP, Yvette Cooper MP, Lilian Greenwood MP, Emma Reynolds MP, Kate Green MP, Emily Thornberry MP, Kerry McCarthy MP, Jess Phillips MP, Baroness Crawley and Shabana Mahmood MP were aboard the battle bus to make the case from the women’s perspective to vote ‘remain’ on 23 June 2016.

The Sure Start Centre is a thriving centre which is a focus for families in the area. We spoke with constituents, many of whom were parents, about why it is important to vote ‘remain’. The staff of Palfrey Sure Start have worked hard to achieve their 2nd Outstanding from Ofsted. We also met with women who are learning English who wanted to know about the economic benefits of the EU. In Walsall South there are many small businesses who depend on the EU as a market for manufacturing goods. And nationally UK universities benefit by up to 22% of the grants for research. I was delighted my colleagues came to Walsall.

The Battle Bus then visited SCC, Europe’s largest independent technology solutions company. SCC was founded by Sir Peter Rigby, who was one of the signatories to the FTSE businesses leaders’ letter backing ‘remain’.
