 Valerie said:

“It is a privilege to host this event in honour of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.  I hope that many people will learn about her inspiring life through this book.  Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has sacrificed so much for her country and has been a truly tireless campaigner for democracy.  She has suffered the loss of her family and her freedom in pursuit of the rights of her people.

“After being elected last year, one of my early questions in the House of Commons Chamber was to the Prime Minister, urging the Government to continue to make representations to secure Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s freedom from house arrest.  Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is no longer in detention but there is still much work to be done to ensure freedom and democracy for the people of Burma.”
