Valerie is sworn in as Member of Parliament for Walsall South

After being re-elected at the General Election on 12 December 2019, I was sworn in on Tuesday 17 December 2019 as the Member of Parliament for Walsall South by taking an oath of allegiance to the Queen in the House of Commons.

Every MP, new and returning, must swear on a sacred text – in my case the Bible – before we can formally take our seats.

The proportion of female MPs will reach 34%, the highest portion of either chamber in Parliament to date. There is a record of 220 female MPs with 104 being Labour MPs.

I am honoured to take the oath as MP for Walsall South and get back to work for my constituents.
