On 28 October 2026 I attended a meeting with Fr Bashar Fawadleh, a Roman Catholic parish priest who was based in the West Bank town of Taybeh. He spoke about the ongoing issues in Taybeh and how the situation must be brought to the attention of the MPs.
Fr Fawadleh gave us some points of action:
1 Effective protection for residents, homes, economic faculties and religious and heritage sites in Taybeh and the surrounding areas
2 Safe access for residents and workers to their homes, workplaces, and property, alongside a review of movement restrictions and their implementation.
3 Investigation of reported property damage, theft and stone throwing incidents, with preservation of evidence and accountability where violations are established.
4 Clarification of the military closure order, including its scope and enforcement, and assessment of compliance with applicable legal obligations.
5 Continued field monitoring, engagement with residents and local institutions and support for independent documentation.
6 Sustained diplomatic, ecclesiastical, and human rights engagement with Taybeh, including field visits where feasible.
I hope to raise the plight of Christians in Taybeh.
