I met with young students from Emmanuel School twice in one week coincidentally.
On Tuesday 19th April 2016 I spoke to children from Years 9 and 10 at the Education Centre in Parliament. They asked me about my work in Parliament, how to become an MP and what is a typical day in the life of an MP. My talk connected young people with Parliament and democracy, and also allowed the children to explore Parliament in the Education Centre’s themed learning spaces.
Later in the week on Friday 22nd April I visited Emmanuel School and a major topic that came up was the EU Referendum. I discussed the pros and cons. The young people engaged in a debate. There was an equal split to Remain and Leave and some undecided. It was good to see young people engaged in politics and eager to learn more about current affairs.
