Valerie Welcomes Police and Crime Commissioner to Poppyfields Estate

On 7 February 2025 I invited Simon Foster, Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for the West Midlands to the Poppyfields estate, which includes Grand Junction Way, Duchess Road, Britannia Road, Patriots Close and Royal Scot Road. Constituents had told me of their concerns about burglaries, street lighting and the parking on Match days at the Poundland Stadium. Supporters at the match park in front of driveways and dropped kerbs. Residents have said emergency vehicles would find it difficult to get through as cars are double parked and parked on double yellow lines with no enforcement from the Council.

It was important to ensure that the PCC could meet with constituents directly and hear from them directly. Chief Superintendent Phil Dolby was also in attendance as ideas that were suggested was a barrier on match days or ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) and community safety funds may be available.

The Neighbourhood Watch  organiser for the estate was in attendance. I will update constituents as to what the Council and Police suggest to resolve this ongoing issue.
