On Saturday 14 March 2015 Valerie attended the unveiling ceremony of the Mahatma Gandhi Statue in Parliament Square. The statue was the work of the sculptor, Philip Jackson.”

On Wednesday 4 March 2015 Valerie was presented with a commemorative shield made in Bethlehem from olive wood by the General Union of Palestinian Students for voting in favour of recognising the state of Palestine in a debate in the House of Commons.
