Valerie takes a keen interest in the status of science in education and funding for science at our universities, herself being a science graduate with a degree in Biochemisty. Therefore she was pleased to meet BBC Young Scientist of the Year Tom Hearing who was at the House of Commons during filming for a BBC science
In June 2010 Valerie tabled an Early Day Motion seeking the support of other MPs for the campaign for a permament memorial to Second World War heroine Noor Inayat Khan, in Gordon Square, London. 34 MPs from all parties signed the EDM.
On 14th December 2010 the cross-party Commons Health Select Committee, of which Valerie Vaz MP is a member, published a report into Public Expenditure.
Recently Valerie showed her support for the Sustainable Livestock Bill by attending an event called "Celebrating Sustainable Foods" at the Houses of Parliament with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Levi Roots.
On Wednesday 24th November, Valerie Vaz MP for Walsall South attended the Presentation Evening at Alumwell Business and Enterprise College as a special guest. Valerie Vaz MP was pleased to present a variety of awards to the pupils at Alumwell and to celebrate their achievements with them.
On Saturday 20th November Valerie Vaz MP was a speaker at the Salaam Arts Festival: Inspiring Women's Talents at The New Art Gallery in Walsall.
