Anoosheh Ashoori is free and a Reception held at Speaker’s House

I was delighted to meet Anoosheh Ashoori and his family on Tuesday 17 May 2022 at a Reception for Anoosheh at Speaker’s House organised by Janet Daby MP with the kind permission of Mr Speaker who presented Anoosheh with an original encaustic tile from the House of Commons which has been “walked on” by MPs and Prime Ministers over many years.

Queen’s Speech Amendment on a Windfall Tax

In my speech in the Queen’s Speech debate I called for the introduction of a windfall tax to ease the cost of living crisis. On Tuesday 17 May I voted on an amendment to the Queen’s Speech tabled by HM Opposition: “At end add ‘but respectfully regret that the Gracious Speech fails to announce a windfall tax on the profits of oil and gas producers, in order to provide much-needed relief from energy price increases for households.'”
