On Wednesday 17 July 2013 Valerie, accompanied by Principal, Keith Whittlestone and Palfrey Councillor Allah Ditta met Schools Minister, Rt Hon David Laws MP at the Depaertment of Education to make the case funding for urgent building repairs at Joseph Leckie Academy.

On Friday 12 July 2013 the Opposition was granted an Urgent Question following the Government’s decision to postpone legislation that would force the removal of branding from tobacco packaging.

On Friday 12 July 2013, Valerie voted for a motion that requires the Government to have the explicit prior consent of Parliament before the UK can provide more than non-lethal support to anti-governmental forces in Syria. The motion passed 114 votes to 1.
