Valerie arranged for two constituents Hanin and Matt to a tour of the Houses of Parliament on 29 February 2012. Not only did they get to experience the historical beauty of Parliament but they got engaged.
On Tuesday 28th February, Valerie asked the Foreign Secretary, the Rt Hon William Hague MP, under what circumstances he would stop maintaining diplomatic relations with Syria. The Foreign Secretary responded that the situation was under review. You can read the exchange in Hansard by clicking here.
Valerie has welcomed the news that the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) has decided to give women boxers at the Olympics the choice to wear either skirts or shorts in the ring.
Valerie is urging the Government to reconsider a change to tax credit rules which means thousands of families will lose all of their Working Tax Credits unless they can significantly increase their working hours.
On 22 February 2012 Valerie urged the Government to publish the transition risk register for the controversial health reorganisation, as recommended by the Information Commissioner.
On 8 February 2012 the Health Select Committee, of which Valerie is a member, published its report into Social Care.
On Tuesday 7 February 2012 Valerie spoke in a Westminster Hall debate on the subject of the Government's Alcohol Strategy.
On the 1st of February 2012 Valerie presented a petition on behalf of citizens of Walsall. The petition opposed Walsall Council's plans to remove borders around graves, which would allow lawn mowers, workmen and members of the general public to pass on top of the graves. The petition had 744 signatures.
