On Friday 26 September 2014 Parliament was recalled to debate the Government's proposal for UK air strikes to provide military support to the Government of Iraq.
The Annual Labour Party Conference took place this year in Manchester, from 21 to 24 September 2014. During the Conference Valerie held meetings with charities and organisations.
On Monday 22 September 2014, Valerie attended the 'Diversity Nite' a celebration of Britain's ethnic and cultural diversity, and was attended by the Indian High Commissioner, the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, the Rt Hon Harriet Harman, Rt Hon Ed Balls and Rt Hon Yvette Cooper, Chukka Umunna MP, Gloria de Piero MP, Seema Malhotra MP and Siobhan McDonagh MP,many councillors and other guests. Coronation Street star 'Dev', played by actor Jimmi Harkishin dropped in to join in the clebration and is pictured above with Valerie.
On Friday 12 September 2014 Valerie voted for the Second Reading of the International Development (Official Development Assistance Target) Bill 2014-15, which enshrines into law a commitment to spending 0.7% of national income on international development aid.
At Business Questions on 11 September 2014, Valerie raised possibility of a Code of Practice in the NHS.
