On Wednesday 26th February 2014, Valerie asked the Minister of State for Northern Ireland what recent discussions she has had with the family and representatives of Pat Finucane.
Next in the series to raise awareness of the important contributions of women in science is Margaret Ann Bulkley.
On Thursday 13th February, Valerie asked the Leader of the House, Andrew Lansley MP, for a debate regarding alternative ways to aid flood victims.
On Tuesday 11 February 2014, the Health Select Committee of which Valerie is a member published its annual report into Public Expenditure on Health and Social Care, which found that the health and care system needs fundamental change if it is to meet the needs of patients.
On Tuesday 11 February 2014, the Health Select Committee, of which Valerie is a member, launched an inquiry into Complaints and Raising Concerns. The witnesses were: Rt Hon Ann Clwyd MP, Anna Bradley (Chair of Healthwatch) and Robert Francis QC (Chair of the Patients Association).
Following the publication of her report earlier this month into the use of higher rate telephone numbers by Government departments, Valerie has called on the Chief Executive of Walsall MBC to ensure that cheaper alternatives are available where the Council uses higher rate numbers.
On Monday 10th February, Valerie voted in favour of two amendments to the Children and Families Bills regarding the "regulation of tobacco packaging" and "smoking in cars with children present".
On Saturday 8 February 2014, Valerie visited Pleck Library and read to children to mark National Libraries day 2014.
